The car:
It turned out better than I expected. I had help at a local audio shop to do the monitor install. I just have the wires laying down going to the back seat where the computer is located. I'm planing on moving it to the trunk area later but for now, it's working. I still need to find a way to hook into the cd changer of the car in order to come into the factory head unit. Any ideas??
OH, think I'm crazy, check out what's happening at MP3CAR.com. It's your one stop shopping for your carputer info and ideas!
I'm powering the system from a shuttle SV-24 http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2001q4/shuttle-sv24/index.x?pg=1 with a 1 gig processor, 512 ram and a 30g hd.
Darn thing has everything. I found it here http://www.directron.com/sv24.html and picked it up for around $621.00
I picked up this keyboard. From ebay.
At the shop, the installer, Bob was kind enough to snap a few pictures of the monitor as he was putting it in the car.
Here is what the finish product looks like Update: July 2002, finally got all the wires hidden up front and out of the way.
Here's the system in action.
here is the computer on my computer table
Check out the butchered track ball. Hey, it fits in the car just fine.. The small unit front of the shifter is the FM modulator. Works for now..
Doing the system install
Computer located between the back seat. (I'll take any assistance on helping me get this thing mounted here and looking good)
Nice shot of the extra fan I mounted on the side of the case for that extra cooling!
Update. Computer is now covered up in it's own box.
Update: High speed Network Access.
Hard to make out but to the left you can see the GPS receiver and just to the right is the white antenna for the 802.11B PCMCIA card.
With the wireless network card, we can now transfer files from the home computer to the car puter. Also with netstumbling software, you can witness the many open AP's in the area. The below shot is of Providence, RI. just right off of 195.
Screen shot of autotap running on the system..
